The smiling dog by RamiRamahi The smiling dog by RamiRamahi
Im pretty sure most of you remember this bad boy...(My special pet) was [link] of the first deviations Ive ever submitted ;)
I have this habit of going back to my old ideas and concepts and trying to enhance them in such away. during all this time I have learned alot and still learning, and felt like I should apply whatever I've gained from artistic knowledge to this guy. I fixed up the anatomy so that he resembles an actual dog, ofcoarse the facial is just ridiculous but hey that's whats so special about him isnt it ;)
I tried so hard not to ruin the character from its original in terms of the personality and the overall gesture form.
I hope hes still as like-bale, what do you guys think,, let me know

He he, awesome stuff, now I want one too... wish I could get my hands on it, texture it up, put a collar and tame the beast :D

Anyways.. nice job with the update, the change is most impressive when you compare the legs. The old one looks more like a frog than an dog :) yet even then it was cool. But yeah, you nailed it, it's way better now. Also like that you compared before and after shots, it gives some sense of your development, I find it interesting just by its own.

To be picky, I would ask, how realistic do you want it to be? Off course paws could use some work, skin and whatever, but the face..ah.. that's what bothers you, isn't it? You said that you didn't want it to loose character, well.. I would suggest you to experiment with face separately see if you can make it work in real life (like: can he close his jaw? or can he move his head? and etc.) and maybe by the end you'll have something that you'll like more than the original.

Thank you Rojus I really appreciate it, very good points you raised here
The paws im definitely not entirely happy with yet
I was thinking adding tiny fuzzy hair on his skin just so hes doesnt look like a shaved chicken ;)
and as for the face yes i did try certain approachs to make since of his jaw anatomy, i even have the topology done accurately, should be good in case i wanna animate him later.

I wouldn't suggest to go with the fur just yet, the paws at the moment look really stiff and don't seem to be able to bend properly, especially the front ones. If you would imagine it running, it would be a heck of an awkward bouncing around :)
Other than that, adding detail is just a matter of time. Basically you could tweak it forever to get the perfect wrinkle and etc. :)

Not to worry. Im actually experimenting with many options just to make sure i got it right
I have a certain idea about the fur, and im studying it carefully in terms of appeal and where it should be growing. if it doesnt look right then I wont show it for sure. you can trust me on that ;)
